Lorwyn is a world of eternal fairy tale. A plane where the sun never sets, where fae creatures live in idyllic harmony. But this paradise hides a terrible secret: periodically, it transforms into its exact opposite — Shadowmoor, a perpetual nightmare.
The World of Light

Lorwyn was inhabited by storybook creatures: kithkin (small peaceful humanoids), elves (aristocrats obsessed with beauty), merrows (curious merfolk), faeries (mischievous spirits), and many others.
Life there seemed perfect — too perfect. For no one on Lorwyn remembered Shadowmoor, and no one on Shadowmoor remembered Lorwyn.
The Great Aurora

The Great Aurora was a cyclical event that completely transformed the plane. When it occurred, Lorwyn became Shadowmoor — and all its inhabitants changed. The kithkin became paranoid. The elves became ruthless hunters. The eternal light became an endless night.
Only Oona, the queen of the faeries, retained her memories across the cycles. She had been manipulating both worlds since time immemorial, taking advantage of the collective amnesia to maintain her power.
