Wizards of the Coast pulls back the curtain on Wakanda Forever, one of the four preconstructed Commander decks from the Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Super Heroes set due out on June 26, 2026. With a Selesnya (green-white) identity, this "artifacts matter" precon can be played with either T'Challa or Shuri, the Black Panther. Here's what's inside, how its strategy revolves around Vibranium tokens, and how to protect then upgrade the deck right out of the box.

Marvel Super Heroes: what the Wakanda Forever deck contains

The Marvel Super Heroes set arrives on June 26, 2026 with four ready-to-play Commander decks: Avengers Assemble, Wakanda Forever, The Fantastic Four and Doom Prevails. Wakanda Forever is the Selesnya (green-white) precon, centered on Black Panther and the kingdom of Wakanda.

Like every precon in the lineup, the box contains a ready-to-play 100-card deck, 10 double-sided tokens, a cardboard deck box, a strategy insert and a rules reference card. Enough to sit down and play right away, with no additional purchase.

On the new-card front, Wizards announces 29 brand-new cards (new-to-Magic) for Wakanda Forever, rounded out by must-have format reprints like Sol Ring and Arcane Signet. Some retailer visuals show 30 cards: the official figure remains 29.

A Collector's Edition exists alongside it, with a borderless commander in surge foil, 99 surge foil cards and 10 surge foil tokens. Be careful not to confuse this Commander product with Marvel's Spider-Man, the separate Standard set from the same collaboration.

T'Challa or Shuri: which Black Panther commander should you choose?

The deck offers two commanders to choose from, both embodying Black Panther. T'Challa, the Black Panther takes the lead commander slot, on the front of the box, while Shuri, the Black Panther offers a more aggressive alternative for players who prefer to pressure their opponents.

T'Challa creates a Vibranium token when he enters the battlefield and each time he attacks. This artifact token taps to produce 1 colorless mana, usable only to cast artifacts. For each artifact spell with mana value 4 or greater, T'Challa gains two +1/+1 counters.

In practice, T'Challa rewards a deck packed with expensive artifacts: the more you cast, the bigger he grows and the more Vibranium he generates to chain spells together. He's a "value" commander that snowballs as the game goes on.

Shuri, for her part, is confirmed by Wizards and StarCityGames as the precon's second legal commander, on a more aggressive axis. Since her full rules text isn't verifiable yet, it's best to wait for her Scryfall page after release before locking in a game plan around her.

Strategy: artifacts, Vibranium tokens and the Monarch mechanic

The backbone of Wakanda Forever is the "artifacts matter" theme: stockpiling artifacts to feed T'Challa and trigger his bonuses. The Vibranium tokens act as dedicated ramp, specifically accelerating the deck's most expensive artifacts.

The deck also includes the Monarch mechanic. The player designated as the Monarch draws an extra card at the end of their turn, until an opponent takes the title from them by dealing combat damage. In Selesnya, defending that status with wide creatures and tokens becomes a steady card-draw engine.

To evolve the precon, the natural path is to deepen the artifact base and the green ramp, then add protection against removal and board wipes to keep T'Challa in play. A precon improves card by card: there's no need to change everything at once. Budget-minded players will find other ideas in our selection of cheap Commander precons.

Protecting and upgrading your precon: sleeves and deck box

A Commander precon often gets played dozens of times: without protection, the cards wear out fast. The first move is to sleeve all 100 cards with quality opaque sleeves. Dragon Shield Matte (pack of 100) are the go-to choice for a Commander deck: a single pack covers the entire list.

The cardboard deck box included in the box will do in a pinch, but it protects poorly over time. A rigid storage box secures transport to your Commander nights and prevents bent corners, especially if you double-sleeve your cards.

To dig deeper into the choice of protection and storage, our guides break down sleeve thicknesses and box formats: the ultimate sleeves guide and the storage and transport guide.

Key takeaways

Wakanda Forever is a coherent Selesnya precon, tailored for Black Panther fans and "artifacts matter" strategy enthusiasts alike. T'Challa offers Vibranium ramp that rewards big artifacts, while Shuri promises a more biting alternative, to be confirmed on Scryfall. There remains the unknown of the release on the France side, which we cover in detail. In the meantime, sleeves and a deck box remain the best investment right out of the box.
