TL;DR: Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Super Heroes (code MSH) hits MTG Arena on June 23, 2026 and tabletop on June 26, 2026, with Prereleases running June 19–25. The set introduces four new mechanics — Power-up, Plan, Teamwork and Worthy — and brings back Connive, Saga and Modal Double-faced Cards. Here's what to keep in mind ahead of release.

Marvel Super Heroes: the key dates

Wizards of the Coast has locked in a tight calendar around the release of Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Super Heroes. Things kick off on June 2, 2026 with the Set Debut, followed by the full Card Image Gallery on June 12, 2026 — the usual window for the first Constructed and Limited breakdowns.

For players, two dates anchor the launch:

  • June 23, 2026 — Release on MTG Arena.
  • June 26, 2026 — Official tabletop release.

In between, the Prerelease Events run from June 19–25, 2026 at WPN stores. With the set legal in all formats from day one, the cadence is classic for a Standard set: Arena first, paper next, competitive play right behind.

The competitive highlight arrives less than a month later: the Pro Tour Marvel Super Heroes takes place at MagicCon: Amsterdam from July 17–19, 2026. For European players, it's the first major window to see the set played at the highest level, and a useful benchmark for timing singles purchases.

Four new mechanics: Power-up, Plan, Teamwork, Worthy

MSH introduces four brand-new mechanics, all designed to fit the Marvel identity without breaking the game's engine.

Power-up

Power-up is a one-shot buff: a targeted creature gains +1/+1 counters along with a situational bonus (temporary keyword, trigger, etc.). It's a tempo tool reminiscent of adapt or boast, but with a more one-off payoff and a combat-focused design.

Plan

Plan introduces a new enchantment subtype. These permanents accumulate plan counters turn after turn before unlocking a big effect once a threshold is reached. Mechanically, it's close to the logic of Sagas, but with an explicit counter and pacing managed by the player.

Teamwork

Teamwork rewards tapping multiple creatures whose combined power reaches a certain threshold to trigger a bonus. The mechanic pushes wide builds and will likely give rise to go-wide archetypes in Limited as well as Standard.

Worthy

Worthy is a descriptive keyword: it designates a legendary red and/or white creature that isn't a Villain. It's the mechanical equivalent of the set's heroes, and several cards will interact directly with this subset — typically effects like "if you control a Worthy creature."

On top of these new additions, three known mechanics return: Connive, Saga and Modal Double-faced Cards (MDFC). Plenty to feed Reanimator decks, value builds and tight manabases.

Product lineup: Play Boosters, Collector and beyond

The MSH lineup follows Wizards' current standard, with a few wrinkles. You'll find:

  • Play Boosters — the official Draft/Sealed format. Notable twist: they contain cards from the main MSH set and from the MAR sub-set, which is Eternal-legal.
  • Collector Boosters — premium variants, foils and special treatments.
  • Jumpstart Boosters — fast casual format.
  • Commander Precons — preconstructed ready-to-play decks (composition not publicly detailed at this stage).
  • Bundle and Gift Bundle, Draft Night, Scene Boxes, Beginner Boxes, Prerelease Packs, Welcome Decks.

The piece that will get chase-card hunters talking: the Textless Headliner variant of The Mind Stone will be printed at fewer than 150 copies worldwide, exclusively in Collector Boosters. On paper, it's one of the lowest print rarities seen on a recent mass-market product.

Legality, formats and early commanders to watch

MSH is legal in all formats from June 26, including Standard, Pioneer, Modern, Legacy, Vintage, Pauper and Commander. The MAR sub-set, included in Play Boosters, is explicitly Eternal-legal — meaning MAR cards go straight into Modern and lower formats without passing through Standard.

On the Commander side, the MSH Precons will open the way for new commanders, but Wizards hasn't yet publicly detailed the number, names or colors of the decks. We'll avoid speculating here — the first leaks will likely arrive around the Set Debut on June 2.

A few key characters have been teased — Scarlet Witch, Hulk, Thanos, along with creatures like the Gamma Goliath — but without confirmed mechanical details card by card so far. According to GameSpot, the set would offer roughly 600 mechanically unique cards, a volume consistent with an ambitious Universes Beyond set; still to be confirmed by Wizards.

If you plan to play the Prerelease or grind drafts, one trivial but important point: get tournament-quality opaque sleeves ready before release. For premium cards pulled from Collector Boosters, it's non-negotiable.

The bottom line

Marvel Super Heroes ticks the boxes of a major Universes Beyond set: a tight calendar (Arena June 23, tabletop June 26), four new mechanics opening up fresh archetypes, and a complete product lineup down to the Scene Boxes. It remains to be seen how Power-up, Plan and Teamwork will establish themselves in Limited, and which commanders will emerge from Pro Tour Amsterdam in mid-July. Which Marvel character would you most like to see as a signature commander?
