Captain America, Super-Soldier is a mono-white legendary creature of type Human Soldier Hero, a 3/2 with first strike, for just {1}{W}{W}. At three mana, it's a cheap, aggressive commander built for white decks that want to pressure opponents from the very first turns.
The Hero creature type is nothing new. Wizards of the Coast introduced it in Marvel's Spider-Man, the first set of the Marvel x Magic collaboration, released on September 26, 2025. Marvel Super Heroes simply makes it the heart of a full-fledged archetype.

Marvel Super Heroes also offers four ready-to-play Commander decks — Avengers Assemble, Wakanda Forever, The Fantastic Four and Doom Prevails. But Captain America will especially appeal to players who want to build their own mono-white list.
One last detail worth noting before you buy: the card exists in several arts (collector numbers #9, #352, and #387). Whichever version you pick, the text and abilities remain identical.
Shield Counter and Hexproof: How Captain America Protects the Whole Team
When he enters the battlefield, Captain America gains a shield counter. It's a single-use protection: the next time he would be dealt damage or destroyed, you remove the counter instead. That way he shrugs off an early piece of targeted removal or a lethal block without flinching.

But the strongest effect is collective. As long as Captain America keeps his shield counter, you and your other Heroes gain hexproof: your Hero creatures become impossible to target with opponents' spells and abilities. The entire game plan hinges on this counter.
Beware a common misconception: the shield counter isn't an invention of the Marvel line. The mechanic dates back to Streets of New Capenna (2022), where it was the signature of the Brokers family. Captain America simply repurposes it to make it a defensive cornerstone.
The Best Marvel Cards to Include in the Hero Typal Deck
The building principle is simple: the more Heroes you play, the more targets Captain America's hexproof covers. Hero creature density therefore takes priority over the rest, as in most typal decks in Commander.
Beyond the commander, build the list around three pillars: as many Hero creatures as possible to extend the hexproof, effects that strengthen the team (anthems, tokens), and white's classic toolkit — targeted removal, protection, and card draw.
On the Marvel side, three pieces illustrate the archetype well. Captain America, Wings of Freedom, a second version of the character, pumps your other Heroes with every attack. Agent Phil Coulson, when it taps, puts a +1/+1 counter on each of your other Heroes. And Doctor Spectrum can, as soon as it arrives, boost the whole team with a +1/+1 counter. Game Plan: Protected Aggression
Captain America's plan is crystal clear: deploy Heroes early, drop the commander to turn on hexproof, then attack with a team the opponent can no longer target. His first strike lets him win most ground duels without taking damage in return.
The archetype's real strength is resilience. Opponents often rely on targeted removal to break an aggressive strategy; here, as long as the shield counter holds, those spells no longer have a legal target among your Heroes. You keep the tempo advantage.
Two caveats, though. Hexproof protects neither against sacrifice effects (your opponents then choose what they destroy) nor against non-targeting board wipes: keep something to rebuild after a Wrath of God. And once the shield counter is removed, the team-wide protection disappears — plan for backup threats and, to close out games, Heroes with evasion.
Protecting and Transporting Your 100-Card Commander Deck: Sleeves and Deckbox
