The Phyrexian threat never disappeared.<\/strong> While the Multiverse celebrated the defeat of Nicol Bolas, a far older and far more terrible corruption continued to spread in the shadows. Karn, the creator of Mirrodin turned New Phyrexia, carried a burden of guilt that would soon become a crusade.<\/p>\n\n

This episode marks the beginning of the Phyrexian Era<\/strong>, the final threat that nearly consumed the entire Multiverse.<\/p>\n\n

Karn's Burden<\/h2>\n\n
\"Liberator,<\/a>
Karn sought a way to atone for his mistake \u2014 and to destroy what he had unwittingly created.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n

Karn<\/strong>, the planeswalker golem, had created Mirrodin as a perfect world of metal and innovation. But he had unwittingly brought with him the Phyrexian oil<\/strong>, the corruption that turned life into evil machinery.<\/p>\n\n

Mirrodin had become New Phyrexia<\/strong> \u2014 a nightmare of fused flesh and corrupted metal. And Karn had never stopped searching for a way to undo this mistake.<\/p>\n\n

The Search for the Golgothian Sylex<\/h3>\n\n
\"Karn's<\/a>
Karn carried the legacy of all those who came before him \u2014 Urza, Venser, and so many others.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n

Karn knew there existed an artifact capable of destroying New Phyrexia: the Golgothian Sylex<\/strong>, the same weapon that had ended the Brothers' War millennia before. He scoured the Multiverse in search of it, knowing it might be the only hope.<\/p>\n\n

Meanwhile, the praetors<\/strong> of New Phyrexia had not been idle.<\/p>\n\n

The Evolution of the Praetors<\/h2>\n\n

The five praetors \u2014 Elesh Norn, Jin-Gitaxias, Sheoldred, Urabrask, and Vorinclex \u2014 had been developing New Phyrexia for years. But under the direction of Elesh Norn<\/strong>, they had accomplished something unthinkable.<\/p>\n\n

\"Jin-Gitaxias,<\/a>
Jin-Gitaxias sought perfection through experimentation \u2014 even on planeswalkers.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n

They had discovered how to compleat<\/strong> a planeswalker \u2014 to transform a traveler between planes into a Phyrexian servant while preserving their spark. This ability changed everything: the Phyrexians were no longer confined to a single plane.<\/p>\n\n

The First Signs<\/h3>\n\n
\"Vorinclex,<\/a>
Vorinclex appeared on Kaldheim, stealing the essence of the World Tree \u2014 a warning no one understood in time.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n

The first hints of Phyrexian expansion appeared on Kaldheim<\/strong>, the world of Vikings and Norse gods. Vorinclex<\/strong> himself was spotted, stealing part of the essence of Tyvar's World Tree.<\/p>\n\n

Then on Kamigawa<\/strong>, the cyberpunk version of magical Japan, Jin-Gitaxias<\/strong> was discovered conducting experiments on reality itself. The local heroes managed to drive him back, but not before he obtained what he was seeking.<\/p>\n\n

The Compleation of Heroes<\/h2>\n\n

The worst was yet to come. The Phyrexians were no longer satisfied with corrupting worlds \u2014 they were corrupting the defenders of the Multiverse themselves<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

\"Tamiyo,<\/a>
Tamiyo was the first planeswalker to be compleated \u2014 a tragedy that shocked the entire Multiverse.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n

Tamiyo<\/strong>, the moonfolk sage of Kamigawa, was captured and compleated<\/strong>. The peaceful scholar, keeper of the Multiverse's stories, became an agent of Phyrexia. This horror demonstrated that no one was safe.<\/p>\n\n

Others would follow. Beloved heroes, trusted allies, transformed into deadly enemies.<\/p>\n\n

New Capenna<\/h2>\n\n
\"Ob<\/a>
Ob Nixilis saw an opportunity in the demons of New Capenna \u2014 chaos was his element.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n

While the Phyrexian threat grew, other crises drew the attention of the planeswalkers. New Capenna<\/strong>, an art deco city ruled by five demonic crime families, became the stage for a conflict over the control of a unique substance: Halo<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

Halo, distilled from angels, was the only substance capable of repelling demons. But the angels had long since disappeared, and Halo reserves were running out.<\/p>\n\n

The Revelations<\/h3>\n\n
\"Elspeth<\/a>
Elspeth discovered that New Capenna was her home world \u2014 and that the angels had not disappeared by chance.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n

Elspeth Tirel<\/strong> uncovered a troubling truth: New Capenna was her home world, the one she had fled as a child during the original Phyrexian invasion. The angels had sacrificed their existence to create Halo and protect the city.<\/p>\n\n

And now, the Phyrexians were returning.<\/p>\n\n

The Phyrexian Connection<\/h2>\n\n

All these events \u2014 Kaldheim, Kamigawa, New Capenna \u2014 were not coincidences. Elesh Norn was orchestrating a multiplanar invasion<\/strong>. Each world visited provided a piece of the puzzle.<\/p>\n\n

Urabrask was the only praetor to doubt Elesh Norn's plan \u2014 but even he could not stop her.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n
