But beneath the gleaming surface of this technological utopia, a revolution is brewing against the authoritarian Consulate.<\/p>\n\n

This episode marks the beginning of the Era of the Gatewatch<\/strong>, when the heroes of the Multiverse begin to organize against cosmic threats.<\/p>\n\n

The World of Aether<\/h2>\n\n

The aether reservoir represented Kaladesh's cutting-edge technology \u2014 and the Consulate's absolute control over energy.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n

The Consulate<\/strong> maintained order through tight control of aether. Their inspectors, led by Dovin Baan<\/strong>, a meticulous vedalken, monitored any \"unsanctioned\" innovation. Their argument was simple: public safety required that only the government could decide how to use aether.<\/p>\n\n

But for many, this control felt like oppression. Independent inventors were criminalized. New ideas were confiscated. Innovation served the Consulate, not the people.<\/p>\n\n
