Before New Phyrexia, there was Mirrodin.<\/strong> A world of perfect metal created by Karn, the silver golem. This episode goes back to the origins of this fascinating plane \u2014 and to the seeds of the corruption that would destroy it.<\/p>\n\n

The Birth of a World<\/h2>\n\n

The platinum angels were perfect creations of Karn \u2014 before imperfection set in.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n

Karn<\/strong>, after acquiring Urza's planeswalker spark, decided to create a perfect world \u2014 a sanctuary of metal where organic corruption would not exist.<\/p>\n\n

He named this world Argentum<\/strong>, and filled it with metallic creatures of his own creation. But perfection is impossible to maintain, and Karn made a fatal mistake: he left a part of himself \u2014 contaminated by Phyrexian oil \u2014 in the heart of his world.<\/p>\n\n

The Mycosynth<\/h2>\n\n

The mycosynth lattice allowed any metal to become alive \u2014 and corruptible.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n

The mycosynth<\/strong> \u2014 the living metal that formed the foundation of all life on Argentum \u2014 began to evolve in unexpected ways. The metal creatures developed minds of their own. Some even forgot they had been created.<\/p>\n\n

Karn, absorbed by other concerns across the Multiverse, did not realize that his perfect world was slowly being corrupted from within.<\/p>\n\n
